As a versatile individual, Wing Ka Penny Tong has had the opportunity to hold several professional roles in the music industry. She is currently the Violin and Viola faculty at Austin College in Texas. She is currently the Principal Viola at the Sherman Symphony Orchestra. She was the section 2nd violin at the Sherman Symphony Orchestra in 2024-25. She served as Part time Lecturer on Applied Violin and Viola at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Between 2022-24, she was the violist of the piano quartet of the Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Tong is currently an all-but-dissertation candidate in her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Viola Performance at University of North Texas, mentoring by Dr. Susan Dubois. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. She was the recipient of the Jackie Chan Scholarship. Her enthusiasm for music performance and teaching inspired her to undertake further, graduate studies in the United States since 2016. In 2018, she earned the Master of Music duo degree in Viola Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at Cleveland Institute of Music in Ohio, mentored by Professor Jeffrey Irvine. And she has been a registered Suzuki teacher for all violin levels since 2018. Tong’s teaching philosophy is to nurture students with patience and love, and to promote great music with everyone.
